The standup process - STANDUP
The STANDUP step is enabled by default and cannot be disabled in a standup.
The STANDUP step is where each person shares their update. Everyone answers the same questions, in their own time, and can read each other's updates as they come in.
Use this step to:
- share what you did, what you will do next and what is blocking you
- close out unfinished items from your last standup
- respond to your teammates with comments, reactions and kudos
- see who has submitted and who needs help
Posting your update
Open today's standup from your invite email, or with JOIN THE CURRENT MEETING on your team's STANDUPS tab. Every team member can post. Team observers can only read.
The first time you open a standup in a series that has context, the context opens in a dialog. Click GET STARTED to begin.

- On your card at the top of the page, click the text box under a question.
-
Type your first point and press Enter. It is saved as a bullet. Pressing Tab or clicking away also saves it.
You can also:
- Paste several paragraphs to add them as separate bullets.
- Type @ and a name to mention a teammate. This notifies them by email.
- Click the INSERT icon to add a poll, kudos, an image, a GIF or a whiteboard.
- Drag a bullet to reorder it, or to move it to another question.
- Double-click a bullet to edit it.
- To remove a bullet, right-click it and choose REMOVE UPDATE. Then click CONFIRM DELETE.

Status types and blockers
A question can have a status type: DOING, DONE or BLOCKED. The standup settings decide it. You do not choose it when you post.
- DONE bullets are your finished work.
- DOING bullets are your plan. They come back to you in your next standup.
- BLOCKED bullets are blockers. They also come back to you, and they tell your team you need help.
For example, in the Daily Standup template, "What is blocking you?" is the Blocked question. See Customizing your standup.
From yesterday's plan
Unfinished items from your last standup appear at the top of your card, under FROM YESTERDAY'S PLAN. If you last posted on another day, the heading names that day. It lists your DOING bullets and your blockers. The list shows until you click FINISH UPDATE.

For each item, choose one:
- CONTINUE - you made progress and are still working on it. It is added to your DONE question and to today's DOING question.
- DONE - you finished it. It is added to your DONE question.
- STILL BLOCKED - for blockers. It is added to today's BLOCKED question.
- × - dismiss it without copying it.
A carried item shows a chip such as DAY 3, so everyone can see how long it has been open. Items carry forward one at a time. There is no button to copy your whole update from the last standup.
Finishing your update
When you are done, click FINISH UPDATE. You need at least one bullet point.

- A green check appears next to your name, on your card and in the TEAM pane. Hover over it to see SUBMITTED.
- You can now see comments and reactions on your own card.
- Reminders only go to people who have not finished.
To change your update later, click the pencil icon on your card. Then click FINISH UPDATE again, or you will not show as submitted.
Reading your teammates' updates
Each person's card, including yours, is visible to the team as soon as they save their first bullet. Teammates' cards appear below yours. The top of the page shows how many people have submitted, for example "3/6 participants submitted".

- React to one bullet, or to the whole card.
- Click a bullet to comment on it.
- The MENTIONS section on a person's card shows where someone mentioned them. You can reply from there.
- The KUDOS section shows the kudos a person received.
If the page says "You are currently viewing this standup.", click JOIN STANDUP to post.
The MY STANDUP and TEAM panes
- MY STANDUP shows your own card, even while a facilitator is presenting. It also counts new mentions of you.
- TEAM lists everyone in the standup. On the STANDUP step, a green check means the person has submitted. A red warning icon means they have a blocker, and it shows in place of the check. Hover over an icon to see what it means. To jump to a person's card, hover over their name and click the VIEW UPDATES icon (crosshair).

Writing ahead
If you will be away, you can write your update early. With the default settings, you can fill in any scheduled day up to 30 days ahead. Use the NEXT DAY arrow in the title bar, or the calendar on the STANDUPS tab. Your team is not notified.

After the standup closes
A closed standup shows "This standup is closed. Updates can no longer be edited." Nobody can add, edit or remove updates, not even a facilitator. You can still comment, react, give kudos and use whiteboards. To change a closed standup, someone must reopen it. See Facilitating a standup.
When the standup closes, it moves to the CLOSE step, where your team can read the summary.
