Asynchronous brainstorming retrospectives
An asynchronous retrospective allows team members to participate in the retrospective at different times rather than all at once. This is especially helpful for remote, distributed, or flexible-schedule teams, enabling reflection and contribution without scheduling conflicts. As the Scrum Master, you can choose whether ideas are visible or hidden while being submitted. Although participants cannot vote or group ideas until moved to the next step.
How to run an asynchronous retrospective
Navigate to the TEAMS tab and open the specific team you wish to run an asynchronous session with.
Click on the RETROSPECTIVES tab.
Click on START RETROSPECTIVE and choose from the list of available templates.
Once you have chosen your template and provided a title, click on the PROCESS tab.
Using the drag handle icon, click and drag the BRAINSTORM step to the top of the process list.
START RETROSPECTIVE and invite your team members to start adding their ideas.
- Leave the meeting in the BRAINSTORM step to allow participants to add their ideas in their own time.
Ensure the meeting stays in the BRAINSTORM step to allow participants to rejoin at any time.
- Reconvene at a later date to then GROUP, VOTE, and DISCUSS the submissions and continue the session as normal.
If you have set up a recurring retrospective, the customized workflow will be remembered and carried forward.
