Troubleshooting: Creating New Teams
If you're unable to create a new team in TeamRetro, there are a few common reasons this might occur. Below is a list of potential causes and how to resolve them so you can get your team set up quickly.
1. Your organization uses enterprise controls
If you're part of an organization on an Enterprise plan, it's possible that your account owners or administrators have set up a centralized process for team creation. This is common in organizations with internal governance or security requirements.
In these cases, when you try to create a team, you may instead see an option to request a new team.
To proceed:
- Follow the instructions in the Requesting a New Team help article.
- Your request will be sent to your organization's account administrators for approval.
- Once approved, the team will be created and you’ll be notified.
If your request is rejected, your administrators may include a reason in the provided text field. You’ll see this explanation when your request is declined. If you’re unsure why your request was rejected, or if no explanation is shown, follow up with your internal TeamRetro admin team or IT department for clarification.
2. You don’t have the required permissions
Team creation rights may be limited to specific roles within your organization. If you don’t have the right permissions:
- Contact your TeamRetro account owner or admin and ask them to grant you the ability to create new teams.
- You can also ask them to create the team on your behalf.
Admins can manage permissions in SETTINGS > SECURITY.

3. You've reached your team limit
Each TeamRetro plan includes a limit on the number of active teams. If your account has already used its team slots:
- You may need to archive unused teams to free up space.
- Or upgrade your subscription to add more teams.
Account administrators can manage teams under the TEAMS tab of the account. To learn more about archiving teams, see Archiving teams.
4. You're logged into the wrong region
If your organization uses a specific hosting region (e.g., EU or US), trying to create a team in the wrong environment might cause issues.
Make sure you're signed into the correct TeamRetro region:
If you’re unsure which region to use, check with your internal admin team.
5. You're part of a trial-limited or restricted organization
In some cases, trial restrictions or organizational settings (like domain whitelisting) may prevent team creation.
For example, if you're seeing an ineligibility message, refer to Organization ineligible for trial.
