The retrospective process - GROUP

The Group step helps you organize similar or related ideas into clear themes, making it easier to discuss and prioritize in the next step.

You can group ideas manually or use TeamRetro AI to suggest groups and titles for you.

You can also allow everyone to group ideas or manage the discussion and group the ideas yourself.

Choosing who can group ideas

You can choose between:

  • ONLY FACILITATOR CAN GROUP - This is useful if you want to manage the discussion and talk through complex ideas, and to manage the grouping process.
  • EVERYONE CAN GROUP - This is useful for more seasoned teams who have run through the process and feel comfortable in grouping it independently. For example, you can assign people to group ideas in a particular topic.

Drag and drop grouping

  • Once your team has added their ideas, you can group similar ideas.
  • The facilitator or everyone, depending on your meeting settings, can drag and drop ideas to create groups and add group names.
  • To ungroup, drag ideas apart.

AI - suggested groups

TeamRetro utilizes AI to identify potentially related ideas for grouping - these appear as SUGGESTED groups, which you can then accept or modify.

  • You can choose how AI suggestions work:
    • SUGGEST GROUPS: Suggest groups only within the same topic (for example, “What went well?” ideas grouped together).
    • SUGGEST ACROSS TOPICS: Suggest groups across all topics in the meeting (like combining “What went well?” and “What could be improved?”).
  • Click to accept a suggested group.
  • Click to reject it and return the ideas to their original positions.

Once finished, you can proceed to the  VOTE step.
