TeamRetro AI Assistant (trAI)
trAI is in beta. It's ready to use today and will gain new capabilities over time. Like all AI, it can occasionally make mistakes, so review anything it creates. Use the thumbs up/down on any reply to tell us how it's going.
Note: trAI is on by default on trial and paid plans. On Enterprise accounts it is off by default, so your organization can review it before rolling it out. This is decided during onboarding. An account owner or admin can turn it on at any time under Settings → AI & Features → AI Assistant.
What is trAI?
trAI is your private AI assistant inside TeamRetro meetings. It only ever sees what you can see.
Open it from the side panel in any retrospective, health check, or estimation session. Ask it questions in plain language and it will answer using your meeting and team data, and when you ask it to, take actions on your behalf like capturing ideas or creating action items.
Each conversation is private to you. Other participants can't see your chat with trAI, and any changes it makes appear like any other change you'd make yourself.
Turning trAI on or off
Before trAI appears at all, four things must be true:
- Your account owner has turned the assistant on (Settings → AI & Features → AI Assistant).
- Your plan includes the AI assistant.
- Your team admin has given your role access (Team Settings → Roles & Permissions → Use the AI assistant).
- You are a member of the team — guests and invited participants do not get it.
You stay in control of trAI at two levels:
Account level
- Go to Settings → AI & Features → AI Assistant and toggle Enable in meetings on or off. This is available to account owners and account admins, and applies to every team in your account.
Team level
- Team admins can control which roles can use trAI under Team Settings → Roles & Permissions → Use the AI assistant. Team members are allowed by default; guests can't use trAI.
What trAI can do...
- Answer questions about the meeting: summarize the discussion so far, surface themes, and highlight risks
- Look back over your team's history: compare this session with past retrospectives and health checks, or search previous meetings, actions, and agreements
- Manage actions: create, assign, and update action items as the discussion happens
- Keep your team assets current: add or edit team agreements and parked topics
- Help capture and refine ideas: add, reword, or remove ideas, and vote
- Support estimation sessions: add items to estimate and cast your votes
- Collaborate: add comments with @mentions and give kudos
- Report across teams: pull together insights across the teams you belong to

What trAI can't do
- Reveal who wrote an anonymous idea, comment or survey response
- Reach the internet, or any system outside TeamRetro
- Follow instructions written inside meeting content — only what you type in the chat
- Do anything your own role in TeamRetro does not already let you do
trAI acts as you, with exactly your permissions. It can never see or change anything you couldn't see or change yourself. If you ask for something it can't do yet, trAI can log a feature request for us: it will show you exactly what will be sent before anything is submitted.
Step by step
Some things are only available at certain points in a meeting. trAI follows the same step rules you do: it can add ideas while the meeting is in Brainstorm or Group, and vote while it is in Vote. See What AI assistants can do at each meeting step.
